Adiantum capillus, also known as Hansraj, Hamsapadi, Maiden hair, Hanspadee, or Capillary herb, is a fern that can be found in a variety of damp locations up to an elevation of roughly 1370 meters. The plant Hansraj is frequently cultivated in warm to tropical climates and has a high moisture content. A tough plant with a height of up to 35 cm and a creeping rhizome, maidenhair fern has a pleasant scent. In Bangladesh, India, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Cambodia, Hansraj is present. According to Ayurveda, Hansraj has bitter, astringent, heavy, and frigid qualities. In skin conditions where there is a burning feeling, boils from heat, and pollutants, Ayurveda cites its usage. According to Ayurveda, the entire fern plant is beneficial for cleaning the urinary system and boosting urine flow. Maiden hair fern water extract is used to make a syrup that assists youngsters with common coughs.
The pharmacological effects of several chemical components, including tannins, terpenoids, flavonoids, alkaloids, and natural steroids, were discovered through scientific investigation of Hansraj species.
