They are well known to contain a lot of steroidal saponins, which stop the absorption of triglycerides and cholesterol. Galactomannan is important for maintaining a healthy heart and slowing the pace of blood sugar absorption, which helps to prevent diabetes mellitus. Additionally, it has a lot of potassium, which works to balance sodium's effects and lower blood pressure and heart rate.

Fenugreek contains 16–20% protein along with other amino acids that support healthy bodily function and help prevent malnutrition. Fenugreek is described in Ayurveda as Tiktarasam, Ushna veerayam, which reduces Vata and Kapha and increases hunger. The mucilaginous, demulcent, and astringent properties of seeds prevent loose movements. Due to its ability to compress the uterus, seed extract acts as an emmenagogue for oligomenorrheic women when taken internally. In postnatal care, a seed-based composition similar to gruel acts as a galactogogue by activating milk ducts.

Externally, the paste made from seed extract applied to the scalp helps to promote hair development and stop hair loss. Additionally, a poultice made of wheat seeds applied to the affected area eases pain and inflammation.
