Common names for Vijaysar include Malabar kino tree and Indian kino tree. Its scientific name is Pterocarpus marsupium. Indian kino trees can reach heights of 10 to 15 meters, and their smokey trunks have vertical openings. The gum exudates on these trees are red in color. There are Bijaysar or Vijaysar trees grown in western, southern, and in the Bihar region of India. The juice (exudates) collected by trunk incisions and inspissated without the use of heat is known as kino.

Ayurveda says. Vijaysar is a safe and inexpensive way to manage blood sugar, maintain a healthy weight, and lessen joint discomfort. In order to manage blood sugar, Vijaysar was initially made popular by Acharya Sushruta. Blocks or pieces of Vijaysar have been used by Ayurvedic doctors to regulate high sugar levels since ancient times. The Vijaysar pieces were soaked in water overnight, sieved with cloth in the morning, and then given to the patients. Vijaysar powder is mentioned in Ayurveda as a means of purifying the blood and promoting skin health. Vijaysar was also suggested as a tonic for rejuvenation and for the growth of hair.

Recent research on Vijaysar extract reveals the presence of flavonoids (an antioxidant) and kino-tannic acid as active ingredients that support astringent effects and reduce loose bowel movements in diarrhea. Vijaysar supports the reduction of joint inflammation and antioxidant activity. Indian kino extract aids in lowering levels of glycosylated hemoglobin, which lessens the long-term negative consequences of diabetes on the heart, eyes, kidneys, and nerves.
